The slide carousel is a relic of a previous era where images were sorted by hand, not software. Hill’s fascination with this object has less to do with nostalgia and more to do with its formal inventory of ridges, dots, lines, numbers, spaces and negative spaces which are the true subjects of her exploration.
“I feel that the detritus of the analog world resonates as a kind of ‘goods’, exuding a richness in its dis-use. Choosing to work with the slide carousel was unavoidable. I think there is beauty in the act of finding new uses for old things.”
